Are You Sweating? is a small, ad-free joke site with no accounts and no sign-up. This page explains, plainly, what the site collects and why.
What's collected
When you click I'm Sweating or send a reaction, the site records:
- An approximate location — a city and country, plus a coordinate pair, derived from your IP address via Cloudflare's edge network. We never ask for or use your device's precise GPS location, and there's no location permission prompt.
- A timestamp of when you clicked.
- The emoji you sent, if you send a reaction (chosen from a fixed set — there's no free-text input anywhere on the site).
That's the entire list. No names, no email addresses, no accounts, and no device identifiers.
Why coordinates are "jittered"
Before a location is stored, it's randomly nudged within roughly a city-sized radius, and re-rolled if the nudge would land the dot in the ocean. This is deliberate: it's precise enough to place a dot near the right city on the globe, but not precise enough to identify exactly where you clicked from.
How your IP address is used
Your IP address is used momentarily, at the moment you click, for two things: asking Cloudflare's network for an approximate city/country, and a short-lived rate-limit check (capping how many times one IP can click per hour, to deter abuse). Your IP address itself is never written to the database — the rate-limit counter is stored separately with an automatic expiry, and forgotten after the time window passes.
Cookies and local storage
This site sets no cookies — nothing is sent back to the server on every request to identify or track you.
It does use your browser's local storage (a standard web feature, separate from cookies, that never leaves your device) to remember two small things:
- That you already clicked I'm Sweating recently, so reloading the page shows your results and cooldown timer instead of asking again.
- The details of your last sweat (city, country, and the totals at that moment), so the share card can be rebuilt without asking the server again.
Both are used only to make the site itself work, are never transmitted anywhere, and can be cleared at any time through your browser's site settings.
How long data is kept
- Sweats (the main counter and globe dots) are kept indefinitely, since the whole point of the site is a running global count.
- Reactions (emoji sent alongside a sweat) are automatically deleted after 30 days.
- Rate-limit counters expire automatically after one hour.
What this data is used for
Solely to show the live counter, the globe of dots, and the city leaderboard — the actual visible features of the site. Nothing is sold, shared with advertisers, or used for profiling. There are no third-party analytics or tracking scripts on this site.
Who can see it
The approximate city/country/coordinate for each sweat and reaction is, by design, shown publicly on the globe and leaderboard — that's the point of the site. No individually identifying information is ever displayed, because none is collected in the first place.
Where it's hosted
The site runs on Cloudflare (Pages, Workers, and D1 database), a third-party infrastructure provider. Cloudflare processes standard connection metadata (like IP address) as part of serving any request, per Cloudflare's own privacy policy — this site's server-side code never stores your raw IP.
Weather
The temperature shown next to each leaderboard city is fetched server-side from Open-Meteo, a free weather API, using that city's own publicly known center — never any individual visitor's location. This lookup happens only for the handful of cities on the leaderboard, is cached, and your browser never contacts Open-Meteo directly.
Your choices
Since there's no account and nothing identifies you individually, there's nothing to log into, export, or delete tied to "you" specifically.
Changes to this policy
If what the site collects ever changes, this page will be updated to reflect it, along with the "last updated" date above.
